How to Earn Money with Your Home

July 21, 2021 by Rachel

Sometimes the best option to increase your income may be right in front of you. Do you know how to earn money with your home? The gig economy makes it super easy to add some extra income by renting out parts of your home. Rent anything from your spare bedroom to day use of your pool and you may find that you can nicely supplement your income.

Sometimes increasing your income means finding ways to work more and sometimes it can mean using what you already have. Your home can be a great source of income if you are willing to be a bit creative.

AirBnB

Renting your home on Airbnb is probably one of the first things that may come to mind, but have you considered renting only a portion of your home? Renting your entire home may not be practical but you can rent a single room, convert a garage into a great little suite, or rent your basement. Get creative and you may be able to create a steady side income.

Sign up as an Airbnb host here.

Swimply

Do you have a pool in your yard? Why not rent it out for the day and earn some extra income? Swimply connects pool owners with swimmers who want to enjoy a private pool for the day. Sign up here and get a $5 credit just for signing up.

Neighbor

Do you have a spare room or even a section of your garage that isn’t being used? Maybe you have space for someone to part a boat or a trailer. Rent it out for someone to use as storage. You will need to provide access to the space on an occasional basis but this is a great side gig with a very limited time commitment. They maintain an insurance policy to back both you and the renter up so there’s very little worry with this side gig.

Sign up for Neighbor here and earn a $50 gift card when you fill your space.

Joyspace

Joyspace lets you rent out fun spaces in your home like a home gym, tennis court, and more. This service has not quite launched yet but you can add your space to it and join the waiting list now.

Rent your RV

Do you have an RV? Chances are it is sitting unused most of the time. Consider renting out your RV with Outdoorsy. Many people end up covering their own cost of the RV by renting it out. This can be a great little side gig income, especially if you live in an area with a lot of outdoor activities.

Get $50 for signing up with Outdoorsy here.

Set Scouter

Do you have a truly unique living space? Film and commercial producers are always looking for great locations to use for projects. Rent out your space to use for filling projects with Set Scouter.

Have you found a creative way to earn money with your home? We’d love to hear about it!

There are some amazing work at home opportunities
There are some amazing work at home opportunities out there but you’ll find so many social media accounts promising that you’ll make $10,000 your first month. They use vague terms and aren’t clear how they are doing it. Those people are usually making money selling you courses about making easy money (and most of them aren’t even making what they claim to be).

Look for real work at home opportunities. There’s a lot of them. They won’t make big promises they can’t keep either. If you aren’t already in our Facebook remote jobs group we post real work at home jobs every day. Check out the link in our profile to join or search “The Work at Home Family” on FB.

First of all, you CAN work from home with kids. Don’t get me wrong. I’ve been doing it for 19 years now. You do have to be selective about the kind of work you will be doing if you don’t have childcare. If you are hired as a remote hourly employee you will be expected to have childcare. We’ve put together a list of remote jobs that won’t require childcare if that isn’t an option. Check it out in the link on our profile.
